Are you often feeling fried and stressed to the max throughout your day? There are some really simple ways to center yourself that you can do right at your work desk.
Deep breaths- Take a minute to practice some deep breathing, with your exhale being a couple beats longer than your inhale. Think: In for 4, Hold for 2, Out for 6. Meditate- You don't have to be a pro, just take a few minutes during your work day to close your eyes and focus on your deep breathing. Repeat your breathing until you feel your mind is centered and present. Put Down the Coffee- This one might not be as easy, but you will begin to see a big difference if you swap out your morning cup of joe for water with lemon. If you can't survive without that morning coffee, at least try to limit yourself to one cup, and then switch to lemon water at midday. Water with lemon helps hydrate your body while raising its pH level so you won't feel sluggish. Open the Blinds- Natural light helps increase energy and improve attention span, while artificial light can actually drain your energy. Take a Legitimate Lunchtime Break- Do something during your lunch break to help your mind relax and declutter, even if it's just a quick walk outside. Restorative yoga and practicing mindfulness are also great ideas. You'll be able to return to work feeling more balanced, refreshed and focused. Try Acupuncture or Acupressure- This one can also help improve concentration, and you don’t necessarily have to visit an acupuncturist. Just massage these points gently. *The third eye point: Located directly between your eyebrows, press this point gently for three to four minutes to help clear your mind. *The sun point: Found in the depression of the temples, place two fingers on your temples and apply slight pressure for two minutes to relieve headache, dizziness and mental stress. *The gate of consciousness: This area hits below the base of your skull. Put both hands on your head, fingers apart, with your thumbs right above your neck about three inches apart. Press gently for two to three minutes to feel more relaxed. Last but not least... Come to Studio 6a for some pampering! Now Brunettes can join in on the fun of the pastel & fantasy color trend. This new craze called "oil slick hair", because it has the iridescent look of oil mixed with water, combines green and purple hues on top of dark hair for a quasi-futuristic yet totally elegant effect. With this look, those with naturally dark hair can get the colorful hues to last without going through a total bleaching process beforehand. Plus, pastel tones tend to fade quickly, but these deeper hues will last for months on end without looking like there's major growth near the roots. This is a total win-win for clients with dark hair that want a fun new look that won't damage their hair or need a lot of maintenance. Give this new trend a try if you want a unique-meets-chic look that's ready for the Holidays! The contouring phenomenon has officially branched out into hair color! Hair contouring is the magic way to accent your face shape using highlights and lowlights. Similar to facial contouring with makeup, hair color is placed in a way that uses light and shadows to alter the appearance of the face. It only makes sense to use the contouring technique frequently used on the face, also in coloring your hair! This can create the most flattering look for your face shape! Hair colorists are using modern techniques of coloring such as ombre and balayage more frequently. These involve hand-painting color to only parts of the hair. Hair contouring is very similar, with color being applied to only parts of the hair, usually framing the face in order to highlight and accentuate certain features of your face. Hair contouring can also alter your face shape, giving you a slimmer and more defined appearance. Features can be made to pop by simply applying the right amount of consistency within the highlights, following the cheekbones and the eyes. Highlights are applied following the natural movement of the hair, far enough apart to create depth to make the color pop. Your natural hair color should still penetrate through the highlighted portion of the hair, to create a very delicate, natural appearance to the highlight.
Hair contouring is perfect for clients looking for a natural look that is low-maintenance and gives them just enough dimension and depth to frame and flatter their face. This technique works for every hair color and texture, so everyone can give this look a shot! With all the different types of foundation today, it can be difficult to figure out which one is the best fit for you. Which is better: a liquid or a powder? Will one dry my skin out or make me oily? Can I use both? Jane Iredale carries mineral foundation in various formulas, that all have their benefits for the right skin type to create the smooth, even complexion you are looking for. Consider Your Skin Type There are many pros and cons of each different type of foundation, but a good starting point is your skin type. If you tend to have oily skin, a powder foundation will give you more of a matte, silky finish. Or if you have combination skin and prefer more of a matte finish, powders would be the way to go, whether it is a pressed powder or a loose powder foundation. Powders are also the easiest type of foundation to apply; so if you are looking for something that's quick to apply or are more of a beginner, powders would also be a good option for you. If your skin tends to be more on the dry side, or if you have mature skin, a cream or liquid foundation might be your best bet. These formulas don't tend to sit in fine lines or enlarged pores like powders can. They also provide more coverage than the powders, and contain ingredients that help pigments spread more easily on the skin. They help hydrate and soften the skin, giving you a smooth and even complexion. How to Layer Products This might seem confusing at first, but a good rule of thumb is always put the powder on over the cream or liquid foundation, rather than vice versa. The PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation works great over the BB cream or liquid minerals to give more of a matte finish, or to touch up your makeup throughout the day. Jane Iredale Foundations PUREPRESSED BASE MINERAL FOUNDATION- the look- sheer & semi-matte the feel- weightless This pressed mineral foundation gives you a look that is just like your own skin, only better. It glides on easily and is slightly more sheer and matte than the loose powders. AMAZING BASE LOOSE MINERAL POWDER- the look- creamy & luminous the feel- like silk This airy mineral foundation gives your a luminous sheer to medium coverage that feels so smooth on your skin. It conceals redness and diffuses the appearance of fine lines and pores. GLOW TIME FULL COVERAGE BB CREAM- the look- luminous the feel- like velvet This BB Cream is like skincare plus makeup. It gives you a coverage that conceals blemishes, minimizes pores, disguises wrinkles, while smoothing and brightening the skin. LIQUID MINERALS the look- moist & light the feel- like a second skin This foundation hydrates your skin while providing you with a sheer to medium coverage. It is a foundation as well as a treatment serum that plumps your skin, helping to calm inflammation, diminish the appearance of fine lines, while evening out your skin tone. If you have any additional questions about these products or would like to try them out, we carry Jane Iredale's full line of products here at Studio 6a. You can even schedule a complimentary makeup lesson (with $50 purchase) with one of our trained stylists! We can learn a little from Mother Nature in autumn and shakes things up a bit with our hair color, following the changing colors of the leaves! Here are a few of our favorite fall trends this year that can give you just the right amount of change to refresh your style. Bombshell Red- Red is super-hot for fall, for obvious reasons. In my opinion, bright red leaves are the prettiest of the fall colors. Ask for a rustic copper hue to achieve a color that looks like it could be your natural color, while complimenting your skin tone. This copper color is poised to be one of this year’s top hair trends! Babylights- If you are timid about change, babylights are the way to go! These subtle highlights give your hair dimension and just the right amount to brighten your look without looking overdone. Shadow Roots- This low-maintenance trend is perfect for busy moms or business women who simply do not have the time to visit the salon frequently for touch-ups. Even though this look is low-maintenance, it is still sexy & cool, and right on trend! We love this look on Ciara! Soft Jet- Sometimes jet black hair can look a bit harsh on some skin tones, but a softer hue in a muted jet will compliment all skin tones and hair textures. A sharp cut with this look will amplify your color. Studio 6a loves to play around with new looks on our clients. Give us a call to book an appointment to get your new fall color today!
A TASTE FROM PIEDMONT LANDS: ORBASSANO RED CELERYA SPECIAL ITINERARY WITH ESSENTIAL HAIRCARE & SLOW FOOD PRESIDIA TO PROMOTE UNIQUE CULTIVARS AND PRESERVE BIODIVERSITY ESSENTIAL HAIRCARE AND THE ORBASSANO RED CELERY It takes delicacy to detangle the hair, that’s why the formula of DEDE / shampoo, DEDE / conditioner and DEDE / hair mist, conceived for daily use, is enriched with Orbassano Red Celeryextract, with an extremely sweet taste. The extract comes from the celery's leaves, and it is pulled with an innovative sustainable method that avoids any kind of damage to the plant. This extraordinary celery is particularly rich of mineral salts an it has a re-mineralizing action on the hair. It is about a cultivation that requires much care and patience: for these reasons it is at risk of extinction since the Sixties. In 2004 the farm Agricola Pozzatello has started a genetic selection process with the aim of recovering its ancient pureness. Since 2010, the Orbassano Red Celery became a Slow Food Presidium. In the video, Mr. Giancarlo Pozzatello tells the story of this unique celery. THE ORBASSANO RED CELERY IN THE KITCHEN Not everyone knows that the precious Red Celery has such a delicate taste that it can even be used in sweet recipes as a candied fruit. Its flavor, as Mr Giancarlo Pozzatello says, is similar to that of almond, while its leaves, as well sweet and perfumed, can be a valid alternative to basil to prepare pesto: the Red Celery pesto is indeed a traditional recipe of Orbassano. However it deserves also to be tasted uncooked in salads or oil dip. VISIT ORBASSANO The Orbassano Red Celery grows in the beautiful agricultural lands that are located between theNational Park of Stupinigi and the city of Orbassano. The Natural Park, very close to Torino, is a real jewel of Piedmont, where it is possible to visit the magnificient Palazzina di Stupinigi, one of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, and UNESCO World Heritage Site from 1997. The best chance to taste this celery and to know those who produce it, it’s surely the yearly Red Celery Fair, during the first week of October. In the aftermath, you cannot miss the Salone del Gustoin Turin, where the Red Celery has a dedicated space, within the Slow Food Presidia project. BY Sometimes for entertainment (or maybe out of boredom), I force myself to answer difficult questions. Questions like: If you could read only one book for a year, what would it be? Or, if you could only use one hair-care line for the rest of your life, which would you choose? For the latter, my answer is simple: Davines. The Bollati family in 1984. It’s an easy answer for two reasons. The first: The products are amazing. My hair feels healthier, fuller, and smoother—and every product smells like it fell straight from heaven. And the second: What the products stand for. This family-owned company has always been transparent about the natural ingredients they use and how they use them to benefit the world we live in. Since founding the company in Parma, Italy, in 1983, the Bollati family has put a huge emphasis on sustainability and environmental awareness. Lucky for their loyal clientele, they are a family of consistency. Despite their incredible growth, now selling in more than 75 countries worldwide, the Bollati family has stayed true to their promise to produce quality products that are by all standards sustainable. They have been working with a number of nonprofit organizations on this mission, the first being the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, dedicated to planting fruitful trees and plants to alleviate world hunger, combat global warming, strengthen communities, and improve the surrounding air, soil, and water. Its programs strategically donate orchards where the harvest will best serve communities for generations. Also, once a year, in an effort to bolster giving and increase awareness, 10 percent of the proceeds from their carbon-neutral Zero Impact products (the Essential, SU, OI, and More Inside collections) are given directly to F.T.P.F. Fruit trees specifically harness oxygen to offset waste, offer a food source for locals, and can be a viable source of income through the sale of harvested fruit. Then, throughout the year, the Davines team heads to impoverished areas—the southwestern U.S., Brazil, Mozambique—to plant fruit trees and help share their support with the communities at large. Fruit Tree Planting Foundation executive director Cen Akin and Davines stylist and salon owner Chantal Girard with students of the the school in Mococa where a fruit-tree orchard was planted.||| In Febuary, they are launching the new Essential Haircare line, which reaffirms their original family-businesss commitment to environmental sustainability. For this new line, they have paired with the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity, joining its Presidia project. Slow Food Presidia technically and financially supports more than 10,000 small producers so that they can continue growing indigenous plants to support local agriculture. And as part of the LifeGate Zero Impact Project, the CO2 emissions generated by the production of each piece of Essential Haircare are offset by funding the creation and protection of forests in Madagascar. Taking it one step further, Davines has incorporated one specific active ingredient from a Slow Food Presidium in each product. And the packaging has been manufactured using food-grade plastic, so that you can re-use them as containers or planters. Needless to say, their products are also manufactured using only energy from renewable sources. As their mission states, “By creating ‘beauty’ we want to encourage people to take care of themselves, of the environment in which they live and work, and of the things they love.” It goes on to explain, "Our ideal of beauty works through practical and 'sustainable' efforts. For us, sustainability deals with the responsibility we owe to ourselves, the people with which we work, our customers, and the world in which we live and operate." They have clearly made a huge effort to do their part for the environment, while still producing a product that we (I) can’t live without. While we hold our breath for the new line to launch, we're happy to indulge in the existing products. If you need a New Year's resolution for 2015, I have a suggestion: Try out Davines. Your hair and conscience will thank you. New sustainable packaging of the best-sellers Love Shampoo, Conditioner, and Smoother. Dear Friends of Studio 6a Salon,
For the Past few years Davines Salons have been supporting the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation through the Davines’ annual Sustainable Beauty Week, April 20-25th. This year the funds we raise together for the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (ftpf.org) will be directed to a large fruit tree planting project that aims to plant 10,000 trees in El Salvador over the next few years. This year's project is especially interesting because of its connection to the new Essential Haircare line's core concept of biodiversity. The funds we raise will go specifically towards re-establishing the increasingly deforested and rare bread nut tree. Breadnut trees provide a staple food once ground down into a grain and are said to have once been a mainstay of the Maya civilization. Studio 6a Salon and Spa has decided to take part in fundraising by offering tickets for a gift basket amongst selling t-shirts and offering year round savings in our salon with donations. With your donation we are hoping to meet our goal of $4,000. We are dedicating the month of April for Sustainable Beauty fundraising. Please consider making a donation to our cause or a donation to be raffled at the end of April. |
